The electric fan makes its seemingly endless, rotating motion because it has a rotor. The rotor is, in fact, the rotating part in many electrical and mechanical devices. When the rotor slows down with its motion or creates a strange sound while rotating, there are only two possible reasons. The rotor either needs lubricant or there is really a problem with the rotor. The same thing is true of our body joints. When a joint moves abnormally, it produces “noise” in the form of discomfort. This discomfort level could be the prelude to a more debilitating pain: bursitis pain.
Bursitis is the inflammation and occurrence of pain around the joint area. This definition is too simplistic, though, as the two symptoms may also occur when one suffers from arthritis. To be more descriptive of the medical condition, bursitis occurs when a bursa (or a sac-like membrane) gets inflamed and starts to produce friction with the moving tendons and muscles. As a result, people experience a limited ability to move. Due to intense bursitis pain, some people find it difficult to get up and do household chores. For this reason, bursitis came to be known as the ailment of old folks even though it attacks the old and the young alike. For the most part, bursitis pain is felt in the shoulder, elbow, or knee joint.
